October 2003 Riders Criminal Trial -- Verdict and
PUEBLO Rally |
 |
The press was out in full force hoping to get a picture
of the Criminal Cops. They came in through the back door
to the courtroom, though, so no one got video or interviews. |
|
|
After the verdicts were read, this young man spoke out in court. He
was detained and kept in custody for having the courage to
speak out and tell the truth. |
|
PUEBLO, many of our allies and over 50 community
residents spoke out loud and strong against the injustice of
the Riders verdict. The group was protesting the jury finding
the 3 Oakland Police Officers not guilty on 8 of over 30 criminal
charges.
Charges against them ranged from kidnapping, falsifying
reports, planting evidence and beating
victims, The group was unified
in demanding a new trial to deal with the chargeson
which the jury was deadlocked. They also called for the
District Attorney to work with the Department of Justice to
bring civil rights charges against the officers. It is clear
from today's outpouring of anger that Oakland residents are not
going
to let this matter drop.

West Oakland is in Nancy Nadel's district. This is where
the victims were terrorized by the three
"Riders" who were on trial in this criminal case. |
|
|
Some of the more than 50 community residents who came to the
court house to
protest
the
jury's failure to reach guilty verdicts for
the 3 Oakland Police Officers who were on trail for charges ranging
from
kidnapping,
falsifying
reports,
planting evidence and beating victims. |

ACTIONS you can take today:
|
|
Let the Tom
Orloff, the District Attorney know that we want these
three tried on the remaining charges!
|
|
| Let the United States Justice Department know that
we want these people tried for violating the civil rights of the
citizens of Oakland.! PUEBLO has authored a
letter that can
be used as a model. |
