Mayor Dellums Honors PUEBLO with Proclamation

In honor of PUEBLO's 19th Anniversary, Oakland Mayor Ronald V. Dellums proclamed November 15, 2008 to be People United for a Better Oakland (PUEBLO) day. The text of the proclamation reads as follows:

19TH ANNIVERSARY FOR PEOPLE UNITED FOR A BETTER OAKLAND

WHEREAS, we join People United for a Better Oakland (PUEBLO) in celebrating 19 years of undaunted advocacy and community service for and on behalf of the citizens of Oakland; and we commend PUEBLO for being a change agent on health, education, environmental justice, public safety and issues that directly impact the well being of our community; and

WHEREAS, we acknowledge PUEBLO for partnering with Alameda County Health Department to spearheading free immunizations for all Oakland students; and Pueblo lead the efforts to design and implement a national program that focused on lead poisoning prevention; and PUEBLO has successfully battled environmental justice matters such as forcing the closure of companies that emit harmful carcinogenic materials into neighboring low income communities and mandating companies to install systems that eliminate the emission of harmful particulate into our air; and

WHEREAS, PUEBLO has functioned as a powerful voice in the city of Oakland regarding matters of police misconduct and public safety; and we are pleased that PUEBLO is honoring our own Chief of Police, Wayne Tucker for his commitment to making our streets safe; and

WHEREAS, we applaud PUEBLO for its profound contributions to our community and our nation, and we take this opportunity to thank them for all they do to make Oakland a model City; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ronald V. Dellums, Mayor of the City of Oakland, do hereby
declare Saturday, November 15, 2008 as:
PEOPLE UNITED FOR A BETTER OAKLAND (PUEBLO) DAY
in the City of Oakland and encourage its recognition by all its citizens:
