PUEBLO Co-Hosts Reception for OPD Chief Batts

On Nov 23rd at 6 PM at Maxwell's Restaurant and Lounge in downtown Oakland, Alameda County Keith Carson and several community organizations including PUEBLO co-hosted a reception for newly appointed Police Chief Anthony Batts. Chief Batts was introduced by City Council member Desley Brooks and introduced himself to the audience.Other co-hosts included the District Attorney Nancy O’Malley, Public Defender Diane Bellas, The Black Elected Officials and Faith Based Leaders of the East Bay, BWOPA (Black Women Organized for Political Action, Oakland/Berkeley Chapter) The Ella Baker Center, Leadership Excellence, The Mentoring Center, Oakland Rising,Youth Alive and Youth Uprising.

Chief Batts talked about his childhood, growing up in some of the rougher neighborhoods of Los Angeles, and his commitment to make a difference in the lives of Oakland's young people --on the 'front end.' He challenged the audience to step up and work with him and the Oakland Police Department to make a difference in the lives of the those on the margins, and those who are re-entering society after having been incarcerated.
