HIGH SCHOOL SURVEY ON POLICING IN OAKLAND

PUEBLO is excited about a new project led by Janice Embrey that will survey high school students in Oakland about their experiences with Oakland police officers. The student leader is Tamara Lawrence, a student at MetWest High School who will be leading a group of students from several high schools as they prepare the questionnaire.
Professor Tryon Woods of Sonoma State University will work with the students to generate the report of the findings and help the students analyze the implications of the data. The students will then begin a process of identifying whatever changes in policy or practice might be needed based on the results of this research.
PUEBLO will work with these students to create and present policy proposals intended to improve the relationship between Oakland's young people and the police to the Oakland City Council, the Mayor's Office and Oakland's new Police Chief, Anthony Batts.
