PUEBLO Assists Oakland Food Policy Council

PUEBLO is working with the Oakland Food Policy Council to help craft a strategic plan to present to the City Council later this year. On January 21st, the Council had its second full Council meeting, after smaller working groups had met to discuss proposals and recommendations. A diverse group of individuals, community based organizations as well as public agencies are represented by this group, and all meetings are open to the public.
The internationally renowned organization Food First is the incubator for the Food Policy Council which was funded with seed money by the Oakland City Council and expected to raise additional funds to sustain its efforts.
The goals are to develop strategies and policies, informed by the community, to improve food security, quality and access, particularly to those residents whose needs are unmet.
