Urban Youth Harvest

PUEBLO hiring for Summer Jobs

PUEBLO is recruiting young people between the ages of 14-21 to participate in its Urban Harvest Program this summer. This 8 week program will start in late June and end mid August, and will operate week days from 1 PM to 5 PM. The work involves riding bicycles to various locations in Oakland where there are fruit trees that will be harvested, using fruit pickers, and then delivered to low-income senior housing facilities. Training in safe bike riding and bike repair will be part of the program, as well as workshops on the relationship between food access, nutrition and health impacts. There may also be opportunities to work on school and community garden projects.
Workers’ salaries will be paid through the Mayor’s Summer Jobs Program, so if you’re interested, you need to apply by going to the Youth Employment Program (Y.E.P.) at 23rd Avenue and International Blvd. or Youth Uprising, at 87th Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard. You will need to write PUEBLO on your application, which means you are selecting Urban Youth Harvest as your choice of work place. The deadline for applying is May 31st, so be sure to fill out the application by that date, or you will not be eligible to participate. If you need help, our Program Director will work with you to successfully complete the application process. The pay rate is $8/hr.
If you need more information, please call PUEBLO at (510) 535 2525 or email: [email protected]
