The Wars at Home and the Wars Abroad:  Community Forum Against Police Brutality

Outcome of September 24 Community Forum on Police Brutality

Much thanks to Susan Quinalan who acted as Recorder for the September 24 Community Forum and sent this information about the  meeting:

Dear Friends,

I wanted to let you know about the outcome of the Sept 24th Community Meeting on Police Brutality at Laney College. Whether or not you were able to attend, you are welcome to join our ongoing work.

It was exciting to learn about all the excellent work that is being done by so many organizaitons and individuals to hold the police accountable. We now have the opportunity to build a more united and cohesive network of activists in order to support each others work and to develop new projects to do together.

At the end of the meeting on September 24th, we agreed to come together again on October 14th at a time and location that would accommodate people attending two related events. So, here's the schedule:
Tuesday, October 14th

2:30 pm: The Oakland City Council's Finance Committee Meeting (City Hall)
Where the City manager's office will attempt, once again, to derail the
implementation of the Risk Management Policy.

5:30 pm: Police Brutality Community Meeting Follow Up
Bring a sack lunch/supper and help decide which of the
many brilliant ideas that were suggested on the 24th will become
joint projects. (See notes below for notes on brainstorm)
(Meeting place is still being confirmed. Stay Tuned for upcoming email.
We're hoping to meet at CCCO's Conference Room at 630 20th St./San Pablo .
Does anyone have a back-up location near city hall?)

7:30 pm: The Oakland City Council's Public Safety Committee Meeting. (City Hall)
Where we will have the chance to speak out about the dissolution of the
April 7th Investigation, the Riders verdict and to support efforts to end
high speed chases in pedestrian areas.

Please come (with friends!) to any or all of these meetings on the 14th.
Your participation is important, and if we spread the word we can build a stronger movement against police brutality.
