News and Events

PUEBLO has moved.  Our new location is 519 17th Street, 130 D. Our phone number remains the same:  510-452-2010.

The move is an additional expense for PUEBLO, which is already facing a financial crisis.  This would be an excellent time to dig deep and send us a donation. Just send a check to the PUEBLO at the new office at 519 17th Street, 130 D Oakland, CA 94612.  We appreciate your support!

PUEBLO/City of Oakland Survey of Citizens’ Interactions with Police: PUELBO, in conjunction with the City of Oakland, has undertaken a survey of Oakland residents to determine the quality of their interactions with the police. Professor Sam Walker has agreed to participate in this effort, and he will write the findings, based on his analysis of the data collected.   For more information, click here.

Risk Management:  A little over a year after the City Council legislated a new Risk Management program (January 6, 2004), implementation has yet to be accomplished.  This item item is scheduled for hearing before the Finance Committee on January 25th, 2005.

The Risk Management program, promoted by PUEBLO, makes the OPD financially accountable for the millions of dollars in settlements that leave the City's treasury every year because of  police violence.

Oakland Police Reject Public Scrutiny: The Oakland Police Officers’ Association filed a law suit in July to stop the practice of public hearings of fewer than forty of the hundreds of complaints that are received by the Citizens’ Police Review Board. They also objected to the public’s access to the investigative reports of these cases prepared by the CPRB investigators.  In recent months, officers have walked out of hearings in violation of subpoena and orders from the Chief of Police.  Read More here.

PUEBLO is working with the legal and police accountability communities to develop a strategy to address the suit. Call us (452-2010)if you or your organization would like to join us in this effort
